Hi, my name is Beth Bolt. Just in case you’d forgotten who I was, seeing as I’ve not written in close to a week. Reasons for this revolve mostly around my up-coming move to Perth. In less than five days I’ll be moving to the state capital, with the hope of finding work and a place to live. For now I’ll be sleeping on the floor of my auntie’s house, but I’m looking to rent with other students around the Curtin area. (So if you know a place, leave a comment)

So my days are currently filled with packing and working. Packing up my belongings into ‘Need right now’ and ‘Come back for when I have a home’. Working at Galts Hardware, which see’s me receive my daily dose of dust and dirty.

So at the moment I’m very busy but I promise, promise that every time I have a spare second I will write! Thanks for the patience people!

So today is my first day back working in Aus! I’m very excited, though I know working at the local hardware shop isn’t the most glamorous or exciting occupation I could have chosen. But honestly that doesn’t matter too much to me. Its work and its money and at the moment, that is all I need.

Further update on my recent adventures: Yesterday was my little brothers 17th birthday- both my Swedish and my Australian brother!!! It’s somewhat weird that Scott and Gottfrid should share a birthday but makes the date easier to remember. My folks and Scott went up to Perth yesterday after lunch, because he has an early surgery this morning. The operation will be on his nose, and will hopefully enable him to breathe a little easier. Also, jess can around yesterday and we watched movies, chilled and it was just like old times. It’s good to have friends.

To my Swedish peeps, it’s about 35⁰C these days in Aus… Jealous? Hehe

A guest in your own house.

Temporary living sucks.

So for those of your who haven’t caught up to the news, I’m now back in Aus; what a mixed blessing. Its nice not having to take your jacket and snow boots off every time you come into the house, but then, I don’t really have a house at the moment. Yes I’m living at home with mum and dad- but sleeping in the guest bedroom, surrounded by my worldly possessions taped up in various cardboard boxes. Being a guest in your own home has that hollowing effect on your mind, raising unwanted questions like “What am I doing here” and “where to next?”. I don’t know where I’m going. I only know where I’ve been and even that is falling into a distant memory.

Hopefully I’ll find myself soon and regain all that was lost.

Why does it feel so dirty?

So I just finished watching the Labyrinth, one of my favourite childhood films. And whilst doing so, I remembered that I had the largest crush on Jareth, the Goblin King (a.k.a Davide Bowie).

I can’t tell if this completely wrong of me but he honestly stirs up the strangest feelings inside :P Perhaps it’s the crazy make-up and hair, or the fact he wear those tight, tights. But I think if he ever came to steal my child, I might have to ask for his number first. **Click on the photo below to see the trailer for the Labyrinth**

After I wrote the last post I got kind of bored so I went on the web and had a look at the different meanings of the name ‘Beth’. This is what I got:

  • Diminutive of Elisabeth or Elizabeth, from Elisheba, meaning either oath of God, or God is satisfaction.

Last Week. Final Day. Last EVERYTHING!!!!!

Well. 2 sleeps before I fly home; I can hardly believe how fast this year has gone!!! I remember when I was flying over, and we’d just taken off from Bangkok. It was sunset and the city was a great assortment of shining lights – the sky a multicolour blend. It was such a simplistic moment but I can remember feeling an overwhelming sense of opportunity and possibility. I had so much ahead of me: I couldn’t have imagined how this year would turn out.

This week has been full of lasts; Monday was the last trip to Stockholm. Annalina and I took the train up early, went first to the Pandora shop (which we had to wait for 20 minutes to open)- that in itself has become a tradition, because it was the second time I’d found myself this year waiting outside that shop :P After we went through Gamal Stan, had a look through some shops, took a couple of photos then headed over to the Cinema to pick up and pay for our pre-booked tickets to see ’Avatar’ in 3D. We then went to Gunnar’s work place and had lunch together; we ate at a quaint little Asian restaurant which served Japanese, Chinese and Thai food. Was incredible and was followed by coffee at an Italian espresso house.

Annalina and I then went back to town, picked up some movie food and headed down to the Cinema. At first it was hard to watch the film in 3D, as your eyes get a bit sore, but once you figure out where to focus, it all starts becoming normal and HIGHLY entertaining!! So I loved the film a great deal, and would recommend anyone to see it. Took the train home after and slept well that night.

Tuesday: Final mentor time with my class, so I brought along ANZAC biscuits. Talked a bit with them about the year, just kept it casual. Afterwards went home to continue packing. Yesterday was my last trip to Eskilstuna. Another early morning and I was on the bus by 8:10. Spent 9:20 till about 12 with Britt-Inger Reimning, my Eskilstuna host-mum. Brenton can and picked me up from there, as we then went to his school to eat lunch and have a look around. After the quick tour we headed to Reetro to begin our final fika; we were also exchanging photos so that took a bit of time. I think we were there from 2 till 4:30, so close to 2½ hours of FIKA!!! Sadly it came time for us to part; I cried for the first time about leaving. Not so much about leaving Sweden but about leaving Brenton, who has been with me the longest and is probably my best friend from this exchange (exchange student wise). Thanks everyone who came yesterday and I hope you have a wonderful life\exchange year.

Today is my last day in Strängnäs, so I’ll be going round and doing all the LAST’s. That’s what it comes down to when you finish exchange; a lot of farewells and even more ’last times’. Let’s hope I don’t cry too much. You’ll hear more soon I promise! Puss
